Working with a decorating budget, particularly a small one, can sometimes pose some trouble for a homeowner. However, budgets are necessary, no matter how hard they are to stick to. A homeowner should never allow himself or herself to go into debt when decorating a home. By making sure to set a budget and by following these simple tips to stick with it, you can have a wonderfully decorated home that wont end up costing you an arm and a leg.

Make the Decorating Budget Firm
You dont want to set a decorating budget and then forget about it when you actually start shopping. You need to remember that youve set that budget for a reason. Remember, you dont necessarily have to do all your decorating at once. It might be better to do some of the decorating now, and then once you save some more money, revisit the room to add more items later. Its best to stick to your budget firmly, no matter what comes up.

You Will Have to Give a Little to Get a Little
Sticking to a firm budget requires you to be flexible and willing to compromise in some areas. If you want the more expensive items that you absolutely have to have, then youll have to go the cheaper route for certain less crucial items. So if youre adamant about adding that coffee table that costs about a third of your budget, then youll have to compensate elsewhere, perhaps spending less on window treatments or picture frames for the wall.

Dont Worry What Other People May Think
Its so easy to get caught up in what other people will think and say. After all, if the figurine you find is perfect for your dcor, does it really matter if you found it at the local discount store? Its not likely anyones going to know what you paid for items in your home unless you tell them. Its not necessary that everything in your room is of the highest quality. So dont worry about what others may or may not say. If you like something and its inexpensive and it fits in your budget, then go ahead and buy it. Many people find that their least expensive item will garner the most positive attention in a room.

Invest in Quality for the Big Items in the Room
In the broad scheme of creating a decorating budget, its wise to put aside the bulk of the money for larger items like a wooden bed in a master bedroom or a dining room table, ensuring that you can afford quality that will last. You just dont need to put as much money into window treatments or other dcor items as much as things such as wood furniture, flooring, and artwork. You will ensure that those larger items will last longer and look better when you invest in quality products. Remember, its fine if you end up witha high endsofa withinexpensivedecorative pillows on it, as long as you stick to your final budget amount.

It can sometimes be tempting to throw your budget away and spend more than you can afford. But if you do that, youll remember the debt every time you walk into your redecorated home or room. If youre experiencing negative thoughts, youre not going to be able to enjoy the space as muchand what was the point of spending all that money? Sticking to the budget will not only save you money, it will bring you peace of mind as well.

No one ever said that you needed to follow all the rules and guidelines available for decorating your home in order to create on that is beautiful. People that are creative have a way with spaces and can make them look original and appealing, they’re great for filling them with personality. If a look that is all your own is what you’re ready for, the tips and ideas in this article can help ease you into the process.

When you make a room your own, sticking to a theme or style isn’t necessary. We’ve all seen a home that made our own look dull in comparison because it was so unique and extraordinary. This article will give you ideas to get your thought process on a roll.

Consider color before you do anything else!

We all know that color affects mood. When you decorate a room make sure to consider what it will be used for. For example, you don’t want to use royal purple or bright red in a bedroom as they are stimulating colors. Relaxing shades like cream, lavender and soft peach are what you want.

Your home office would probably benefit from colors such as red, yellow and orange as they are energy colors. If you are going for a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere for your living room, warm colors like pumpkin, deep yellow or gold, rust, dark green and navy blue should be taken into consideration. Nature just has inviting and soothing colors. If cool colors are what you lean towards, why not combine light to medium shades of blue and green?

Do things your own way

Some people love how relaxing the country or western styles can be, while other love the sleek, simple look of modern décor. If you’re the type who loves both, mix things up a bit. An eclectic look screams originality and personality. Put what you collect on display, whether it’s porcelain bells, antique dolls or nautical-themed items. Include those items you truly love, it’s your home. You should really take out any accents or knick-knacks that you have and really don’t like.

Shake things up with paint

Today, what a little paint can do to transform a room is simply amazing. Why go with white or cream colored walls? Even though it’s great to use lighter shades in small rooms, more spacious rooms need lighter shades. Trim the baseboards and door facings with a gold or cream hue while painting one or two walls a pumpkin color or any color that blends with the décor. This adds more interest and depth into the room.

You can even paint your wood furniture, and a modern coffee or end table can even be made to look like an antique. The worn look can be easily accomplished by painting the wood in whatever color you desire and lightly sanding down the edges.

Go through your storage spaces to find things you packed away years ago. Items that you thought were way past their prime may surprise you in what they can now accomplish. Turn your rooms into ones that you’ll love by getting your creative juices flowing.

A mistake that many people make when choosing a dining room table is buying one based solely on looks. Sure, you want a beautiful and appealing home, but for many families the dining room table is used for more than just dining. Other concerns need to be the base of your decision, like your budget and coordination with other décor. By using the ideas and tips in this article you’ll be better informed and will be able to choose a table that is not only attractive but serves other functions as well.

Consider these questions before you start shopping

Do you need a table that spans several feet that will accommodate a disabled person or numerous guests?

What exactly can a dining room table be used for that isn’t dining? You’ll need a more durable top for your table if you intend to use it for activities that may cause scratches.

In order to fit the scale of the room, how large does the table need to be? If you have a smaller area, don’t get a large formal dining table; the same applies for a larger area, don’t get a table that is small.

Can you afford to go all out on a table, or do you have a tighter budget? Money is a issue for lots of people, so make sure to determine your budget before shopping.

Shapes, sizes and usability

A dining table that looks too fancy or expensive to touch is unnecessary unless you have a formal dining room that isn’t really used by anyone. Sitting around a table that someone is afraid to touch for fear of leaving smudges will make them uncomfortable.

Decide on a style and shape for your table. Do you want a round, oblong or square shape? What style best fits your dining room and kitchen? If you have you dining room and living room and living room areas flowing together, you’ll want a style that will easily flow into your living room’s décor. Choose a small dining room table so that you don’t overflow the space if you have a small kitchen/dining area. An open, spacious country kitchen with a chunky wooden table flanked by picnic benches or wooden chairs looks wonderful.

Dining room tables used for multiple purposes

If you have a small kitchen with a small counter space, you might find yourself preparing foods at the dining room table quite often. By chopping and dicing you’ll find that you can do some damage to the finish! This case calls for a surface that you can easily clean and is tough.

Children usually do homework at the dining table, and families also like to spend time together playing card games and such at the table. Make sure that the surface is hardy and will be able to stand a good deal of abuse if it will be used for these activities. There are some extremely delicate surfaces that can have marks left on them if you leave a glass of water sitting for a few minutes.

Ensure that you know everything that your family uses the dining room table for before making a considerable investment in your dining room. Think about your kitchen and dining room’s current style and whether a simply small, cozy table is needed or whether you need lots of space for your family and guests. Now, when the time comes for you to shop, you’ll have all these questions answered in your mind and your decision will be much easier.

It happens all too often, you find the perfect home – you love everything about it, but the master bedroom is too small. You find the perfect home; everything about it is exactly what you wanted, until you get to the master bedroom. This happens more than you could imagine. Even though that room is small the rest of the house is exactly what you have been looking for. The living room and kitchen are completely satisfying. What can be done to make the master bedroom look and feel more spacious? How do you make the master bedroom look and feel more open? Your room will visually enlarge with the tips and ideas in this article. All small rooms can be improved by most of these tips.

Creating the appearance of space is a feat that can easily be accomplished. You can implement a few small changes that will make your rooms look larger and airy without having to compromise in the personality and appeal of the areas. Here are a few ideas that will help you create larger looking spaces that can be used not only in your master bedroom, but in many other parts of your home as well.

Use Mirrors!
This trick is one for the books. You have probably heard it millions of times, but it works. A mirror should be hung on your bedroom wall, opposite a window. A perfect place to hang a mirror is on your bedroom wall, just opposite a of a window. The reflection of the window will cause the room to look more spacious and sun filled, especially if you use light colored curtains. You can also do this in a bathroom or living room.

Paint – The Solution for Many Problems
You can do many things in your home with the help of paint. The walls of a small room should be painted with light colors. Good color choices fall along the lines of softer colors of paint like cream, off-white and pastel shades of peach and yellow. White paint for the ceiling will add a lighter look to the room. Light shades will open up an area, while dark hues tend to diminish.

Floors Should Be Light as Well
Adding visual space to small rooms can also be accomplished by keeping floors lightly colored. If you use carpeting light hues, like sand and cream, work just as well. If you use wood flooring light colors or natural woods should be used. What if you already have a dark colored carpet and cannot afford to make any changes? Well, you can always add light colored rugs on each side of the bed and at the foot.

The appearance of a headboard is usually quite bulky. Solving this problem is as easy as taking the headboard out and replacing it with a tapestry or rug hung on the wall behind the bed. Doing this will add a more spacious and open feel to the room. To open up space on your night table hang swing arm lamps on the walls instead of using lamps.

This is a neat trick that will help to open up your master bedroom: Hang sheer, light colored curtains that are higher and wider than your windows! With this, the room will appear more open and airy because the illusion of larger windows will add a new dimension to the room. If you have extra space, you should consider moving a chest or drawer into a closet in order to open up more floor space.

Comforters, curtains and throw pillows should also have light tones in order to add to the room. Remember, using dark colors recedes and diminishes the area; these colors absorb light, this is not what you want! Things should be kept as light and as open as possible in your master bedroom; this will keep things looking large and spacious.

Do your rooms need some livening up? You and your visitors are offered no appeal by dull, bland rooms. Livening up and adding depth to a room can be done in many ways with fabric. Turn your home into one that is beautiful and welcoming with color fabric and texture. You room will go from plain to exquisite with by simply using fabric and color. With the help of the ideas in this article you will be able to add beautiful bursts of color and excitement to the room.

When making your room look beautiful and appeal with fabrics and colors you must be sure to follow a few rules.

Where to Add Fabrics & Color
Color can really bring a room to life. You don’t have to spend too much money on decorating the living room; the easiest and most inexpensive way to do it is with throw pillows, window treatments and tapestries. Combine throw pillows in interesting patterns. The pleasing look that solid print, small print and large print pillow can create is a perfect example of this. The sofa shouldn’t be the only place for putting throw pillows. Over-sized pillows that you have can be tossed on the floor for extra seating.

Tapestries offer intricate patterns, have pleasing texture and are rich looking. You can place a tapestry that complements the other colors of your décor on one of the walls. The room’s focal point can be this tapestry.

The use of rich colorful fabrics will also add a burst of color. Using a simple fabric panel or valance can really help pull the room together. If you find fabric for your lampshades or runners for you coffee or end tables that offers color and interesting patterns really consider using it.

Creating the Right Mix of Pattern and Color
It is generally best to decorate the room with three colors. Most cases warrant that the room is made in a 60/40 split between a dominant color and two other colors. The room’s color will be balanced and a base color will result, allowing it to stand out and become the template for more color and pattern.

The large scale pattern should be the first thing you choose, just to make the process easier. This will help to draw you in the right direction when choosing your solid and small scale patterns. Mixing floral, plaid or striped patterns was unheard of years ago. A combination of patters has now become all the rage! There is no match for the interest and appeal in this.

You solid color should be selected from your floral pattern if toy choose one as your large scale choice. The other small scale pattern should be dominated by your three color choices for the room. This small scale pattern will do well with plaid, geometric or striped patterns.

Remember, a beautiful and coordinated room can easily be created with only three colors. Richly textured fabrics should be used for your windows, throw pillows and other accents. Finish balancing the room with colored ceramic pots filled with natural flower or greenery. You won’t have to put much effort into the room if you follow the solid, small print, large print rule; and you’ll create some beautiful rooms. Don’t be afraid to mix things up a bit when it comes to color and fabric!

Although interior decorating is always rooted in the style of the homeowner, there are certain things that should definitely be avoided. Some people find that they really have a knack for decorating, whereas others might need some help. Whatever your degree of decorating savvy, here are the top 5 interior decorating mistakes and how to avoid them in your home, no matter what kind of room youre working with.

1. Interior Decorating without a Plan or Vision
One of the worst things you can do is to start decorating a room with absolutely no plan or vision. Most likely what will result will be a randomly-put-together room where nothing flows. Always start by drawing out some sort of plan or at least have a vision of what you want the room to look like. This should be done before you buy even one piece for the room. The plan doesnt necessarily have to be elaborate. Just get a few quick ideas down on paper so you have something you can work with.

2. Complementary and Contrasting Home Dcor: Too Much Matching
Some people want everything to match, which may mean they end up with a living room that is all tan and brown. If youre going for a monochromatic look, then this might be okay. But most people are going to need complementary and contrasting colors added to the room to improve the dcor. These variations give the room something interesting that will stand out, rather than the whole room just being drowned out in one or two colors.

3. Disorganization: Decoratively Organize Your Room
Organization is one of the most important aspects of any room. A rooms dcor can be easily lost when that room is disorganized and a mess. When choosing items for your room, you should try to find functional pieces as well as decorative ones. Consider, for instance, that bookcases canbe used for much more than just holding books. Wicker baskets placed on the shelves can hide such miscellaneous items as remotes, toys, and magazines.

Be sure to fully utilize any storage space you have in a room. Clothes might be stored under the bed, and bathroom cabinets might have small baskets in them for small items such as toothbrushes, floss, and other personal items. Avoid having small items just lying out all over the room. Rather, use your creativity to find places to store and organize them out of sight.

4. Getting Furniture without First Checking Room Dimensions
No matter what room youre decorating, before you buy any type of furniture, whether its a coffee table for your family room or wooden beds for your bedrooms, be sure to take measurements of the room. You dont want to end up having your couch take up your whole family room. On the other hand, you also dont want to end up with a teeny couch in a huge living room space.

Your furniture should be planned according to the size and shape of the room. You might also want to buy your furniture first. Not only can styles always be worked around the furniture, but this way youll be able to see what kind of space youre left working with.

5. Pictures Placed Too High on the Walls
This is a very commonly made mistake when it comes to interior decorating.Pictures should be hung on the wall at eye level and no higher. If youre hanging a huge portrait, however, it can go slightly higher so its away from the floor. In this case, the middle of the picture should be at eye level. The key is to be able to look at the artwork straight on instead of having to look up to see it.

Of all the interior decorating mistakes that people make, these are the most common. If you avoid these mistakes, youll be well on your way to a beautifully decorated home.

Telecommuting, or working from home, is becoming increasingly popular with professionals. Whether you work from home or just end up taking a lot of your work home with you, you probably need some sort of home office. Setting up an office in your home doesnt necessarily have to be expensive. There are many options available in building a budget-friendly home office that will fit your needs, whether you work from home or just want an office space for your family.

Sectioning a Portion of a Room for Office Space
Setting up a home office doesnt necessarily mean you need to designate a completely separate room. Certainly having your office in its own room is nice, but it isnt at all necessary. Unless your business needs a lot of storage space, a home office can be set up in a closet or in a corner of another room, such as the dining room or kitchen. As a matter of fact, a corner of a room or a closet can sometimes work better for work-at-home parents, particularly if they need to keep an eye on younger children or monitor their teens computer time.

Converting a Closet into a Home Office
Turning a closet into a home office is simple. Just take the doors off the hinges and remove the closet bar. Next, choose a simple oak desk with a comfortable chair that fits the space. The back walls of the closet can provide a place for shelving or any other organizational or storage options you might need. If you sometimes want a more private situation, then simply hang a long curtain over the front of the closet to give you the space you need. If youre looking for an inexpensive office solution that requires very little space, then this is definitely the way to go.

Adding Shelving and a Desk to Any Room.
For many people, a home office might be as simple as built in wood bookcases or storage area, or a computer armoire. In this way, you can create a very inexpensive home office that can be added to just about any room, from the dining room to the kitchen to the bedroom.

If you are fortunate enough to have a separate room in which to create a home office, there are still many ways to build a budget-friendly space. There are many simple things you can do that will make a big difference, such as painting the room your favorite color or a mellow color like light green or blue.

To decorate the walls, try adding some framed photographs. You might choose photos of nature scenes or of your family, if you wish. You might also consider adding some shelves or shadow boxes to the walls, as they can double as both storage space and a decorative item.

Those books that you use for your business might also serve as decorative items, particularly if they are nice-looking. You might be able to find decorative boxes and trinkets that can be filled with office supplies, so that they are functional as well as stylish.

The great thing about a home office is, if you are just starting up your business and you dont have many resources, you can easily build it up slowly. You can simply start out with a desk and a chair in the room. As your budget grows, you can look to find deals or sales on decorative and storage items to use in the room. Its not necessary to go into debt trying to create the perfect home office before you business is even making money.

The CLOCK! – Before this invention, time was inseparable from events, the most important being considered the turning of the Earth around the Sun. Once, in ancient times, there was only “local time”, no one knew of GMT. If someone gave you a date, there were no “academic quarter” but rather, “we will see you at sunset.” Man used to read information according to the phenomena of nature, to animal gestures and habits, to primitive objects, that helped him to pinpoint every second.

It seems that the first tool used by humans to measure time was a solar clock, a meridian invented in Egypt in 2000 BC. Several centuries later the true clock was born, consisting of a shaft called Gnomon. Years later the Egyptians invented a different clock, named ‘water clock’.

Then came the invention of an hourglass and then the clock that runs on a mechanical system. The first mechanical clocks were built in Europe around the turn of the thirteenth century. Quadrant has been applied for the first time a mechanical clock in 1364, by the Italian Giovanni Donde.

The pendulum clock or cuckoo clock was hugely appreciated and well loved. There was then only a small step until the advent of electronic watches, ultrasophisticated clocks and computer desktop displays. That’s because today we live in the “speed era” when everything is strictly planned and everything has an agenda, we must be “timely” and we always seem to have a deadline. What would we do without a ticking (alarm) clock? Or without a mini alarm clock in white, a square cased alarm clock or a a cased sliding alarm clock?

For the artists and their bohemian minds there are the Contemporary Square Glass Jumble Number Wall Clock or the Folding Leather Effect Travel Alarm Clock in Brown.

The family guy can always carry the Leather Picture Frame Alarm Clock in Black while the eco types can choose the Solar Powered Alarm Clock in Silver without worrying of being out of fashion.

The busy parents will always be on time to pick the children up from school with a Vista Giant Alarm Clock in the house, while a Sneaky Old Crocodile Children’s Alarm Clock will only show playtime for the little ones!

Billions of years ago or just a minute ago the clock was right here ticking!

It doesn’t matter if you are young or old, have a job or classes that you can’t miss, wait for your girlfriend or this month’s salary, waiting for the time to pass near you or just want to catch an important moment in your life, so remember: you can’t miss what could have been the moment in your life by not having the perfect working clock! Listen It’s all a matter of TIME!

John Orr is the founder and director of Simply Clocks John has a keen passion for interior and outdoor design and when he is not beautifying his home he is involved in his other passion – football.

No matter the size, style or amount of stuff in a room, it’s look can easily be changed. Your room may be on the small side, and you might just feel as if it’s always going to feel tiny and congested. The living room however, may be a little too large. Or does your room look cluttered, messy and plain old boring? There are easy solutions to your problem, no matter what it may be. The ideas in this article will help create your living room into one that you, your family and guests will love.

Make a Tiny Room Look Bigger

If your living room is small and you want to make it appear larger there are several tricks you can use. Begin with a light color of paint for the walls and ceilings. A light color will create a spacious feeling in the room by making the ceiling appear higher. Your furnishings should also include light shades to add to the effect. Try your best to stay away from any woods that are dark in color like mahogany, and try to go with natural woods or pine finishes.

Furniture should be set against the walls whenever possible to open up lots of floor space. Try to stay away from any sort of accessories that will add to the clutter and congestion in the room. You can light up the room and add color to the walls if you use no more than a single, brightly colored accent per wall. Keep your windows bare if possible, however if it isn’t possible go with light-weight fabrics and sheers.

Cozy up a Large Room

Your problem might actually be the exact opposite – you have a living room that is just too big! This usually makes a room feel as it if has no personality and it also makes it feel cold. You can make the room look more intimate and appealing with the use of dark, rich colors like burgundy, navy and green. Colors that will work as well as the others are shades of brown, gold and autumn. All your walls don’t need to be painted in a dark color, however you should consider painting two opposing walls in a rich shade in order to provide contrast to the other walls. Think about choosing to paint your ceiling in a darker tone if it’s high beamed or in a cathedral style. This will make the ceiling appear to be lower.

You want to draw in a room that is too spacious. You can do this by moving furniture away from the wall, which will create a smaller and more intimate atmosphere. Try to arrange a sofa and chairs is a way that has you facing your visitors. This will add a personal and intimate tone to the room. The furnishings and accessories of the room should be kept to scale, you should use large furniture, large plants and other décor of substantial size. Use large prints to decorate the walls as well.

Remember that a junky feel comes with heavy use of accessories and accents, whether the room is large or small. Smaller rooms should keep their accents bright and sunny. Patterns and prints that coordinate with the living room’s main color should be used for a larger room. The room’s cold ambience will diminish with them as depth and dimension will be added to the room.

Rooms filled with personality and style can be created by using these ideas in conjunction with your own.
